IST Hosts Hospitality and Aviation Workshop, Inspiring 120 Thepmitrsuksa School Students Through Hands-On Learning
Four practical learning stations introduced upper secondary students to aviation communication, aircraft safety, international table setting, and mocktail preparation.
The International School of Tourism (IST), Suratthani Rajabhat University, hosted a Hospitality and Aviation Workshop for 120 upper secondary students from Thepmitrsuksa School. The activity provided students with opportunities to experience hands-on learning through four practical stations delivered by the Aviation Business Program and the Tourism and Hospitality Management Program.
Learning in the tourism, hospitality, and aviation industries goes far beyond textbooks. These professional fields require practical skills, effective communication, attention to detail, professionalism, and a strong service mindset. With this in mind, IST designed the workshop to allow upper secondary students to explore real-world skills and activities related to future study and career opportunities.
A total of 120 students from Thepmitrsuksa School participated in the workshop. The participants rotated through four hands-on learning stations covering key areas of aviation and hospitality. Each station provided students with an opportunity to practice, experiment, and gain a better understanding of professional skills used in the tourism, service, and aviation sectors.
Discovering Four Hands-On Workshop Stations
Radio Communication and the ICAO Phonetic Alphabet
Students learned the fundamentals of radio communication used in aviation and practiced the ICAO Phonetic Alphabet, an internationally recognized system used to clearly communicate letters and information. The session highlighted the importance of accurate, clear, and standardized communication in aviation operations.
Aircraft Emergency Equipment
This station introduced students to aircraft safety and Aircraft Emergency Equipment. Participants learned about the purpose and proper use of emergency equipment while gaining an understanding of the importance of safety procedures, preparedness, and professional responsibility in the aviation industry.
Napkin Folding and International Table Setting
Students practiced essential food and beverage service skills, including creative napkin folding and international table setting. The activity demonstrated how attention to detail, presentation, and service standards contribute to professional hospitality experiences in hotels, restaurants, and related service businesses.
Mocktail Preparation
Students enjoyed a hands-on introduction to beverage preparation through a Mocktail Workshop. They learned about ingredients, flavor combinations, presentation, and drink decoration while developing creativity and basic food-and-beverage service skills that can be further applied in hospitality and tourism careers.
The four workshop stations reflected IST's emphasis on Learning by Doing. By allowing students to directly experience professional activities, the workshop encouraged them to explore their interests and gain a clearer understanding of educational and career pathways in tourism, hospitality, and aviation.
The activity was jointly organized by the Aviation Business Program and the Tourism and Hospitality Management Program of the International School of Tourism. Through the sharing of academic knowledge and practical experience, the workshop aimed to inspire students to explore future educational and career opportunities while strengthening collaboration between the university and secondary education institutions.
