IST Empowers Final-Year Tourism Students with English Job Interview Skills for Professional Internships
The International School of Tourism (IST), Suratthani Rajabhat University, is enhancing students' career readiness through a practical English job interview workshop designed to strengthen communication skills, professional confidence, and workplace preparedness ahead of internships in the tourism and hotel industries.
Success in the tourism and hospitality industry requires more than academic knowledge. Effective English communication, professional presentation, and confidence are essential skills for graduates entering today's competitive job market.
Recognizing these needs, the Hospitality Industry Management Program, Tourism Major, at the International School of Tourism, Suratthani Rajabhat University, organized a practical workshop entitled "English Job Interview Preparation Workshop" for fourth-year students. The workshop aimed to develop essential English communication skills and prepare students for recruitment interviews and professional internships.
Building Confidence Through Practical Learning
The workshop focused on essential English communication skills for job applications and interviews in tourism and hospitality. Students practiced professional self-introductions, answering common interview questions, presenting their experiences and personal strengths, and demonstrating appropriate language and professional behavior.
A key feature of the workshop was the use of mock job interviews, allowing students to experience realistic interview situations. These practical activities were designed to strengthen their communication skills, reduce interview anxiety, and build confidence in presenting themselves to potential employers.
Learning from English Language Experts
The workshop featured Dr. Khanchai Wongchana and Dr. Aphinan Wongkittiporn, English language teaching specialists from Prince of Songkla University, Surat Thani Campus, as guest speakers and trainers.
The invited experts shared practical knowledge and techniques for effective English job interviews while guiding students through interactive learning activities and interview practice.
Preparing for Professional Internships
The workshop was organized in preparation for the students' professional internships during the second semester of the 2026 academic year. The internship period is scheduled from November 2026 to March 2027, with placements in tour operations and hotel businesses.
Through this initiative, students are expected to develop greater confidence, professional communication skills, and workplace readiness, enabling them to adapt effectively to real-world working environments.
The workshop reflects IST's commitment to developing competent graduates with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional capabilities required by the tourism and hospitality industry. It also supports the institution's mission to prepare students for meaningful careers in both national and international employment markets.
