IST Drives Hospitality Businesses in Khao Sok Toward Carbon Neutrality

The International School of Tourism, in collaboration with experts from Suratthani Rajabhat University and the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), organized a knowledge-sharing forum to promote the concept of “Carbon Neutrality” in hospitality businesses in Khao Sok, aligning with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Recently, the International School of Tourism organized a forum titled
“The Path to Carbon Neutrality: For the Hospitality Sector in Khao Sok”
as part of the research project: “Enhancing Collaborative Management of Hospitality Businesses to Promote Carbon Neutrality in Khao Sok, Surat Thani Province.”

The initiative was led by a research team including Asst. Prof. Dr. Yoksamorn Jeheng and Lecturer Nuchnan Satchachiew from the International School of Tourism, along with distinguished experts Dr. Netnapa Ruangpanupan from the Faculty of Science, Suratthani Rajabhat University, and Dr. Sinyathorn Nakphin from the School of Tourism Management, National Institute of Development Administration.

The primary aim was to empower local accommodation businesses with knowledge on carbon reduction and sustainable practices. The forum welcomed participation from various local stakeholders, including government agencies (Khao Sok National Park, Khlong Sok Subdistrict Administrative Organization), community tourism groups, and hospitality and restaurant entrepreneurs.

Importantly, the project aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as:

  • SDG 13: Climate Action

  • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

The development of a “Khao Sok Model” for carbon-neutral hospitality stands as a vital move toward globally aligned sustainable tourism, benefiting the environment, local communities, and the economy in the long term.
