SRU International School of Tourism Hosts “Let’s Go Green @ Bang Bai Mai” to Promote Environmental Awareness Through Community-Based Learning
Inspiring Youth to Appreciate Local Green Resources Through Experiential Learning and Community Collaboration
Students and lecturers from the International School of Tourism, Suratthani Rajabhat University, organized the “Let’s Go Green @ Bang Bai Mai” activity at Pracharat Floating Market and Lung Song Garden in Bang Bai Mai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Surat Thani Province. The initiative aimed to promote environmental conservation and sustainable resource awareness among youth both within and beyond the local community.
The activity was designed to encourage experiential learning through local natural resources and community wisdom. University students developed and facilitated educational activities that connected nature, sustainability, and local culture, providing young participants with meaningful opportunities to learn about environmental stewardship through direct experience.
Students as Community Learning Facilitators and Environmental Ambassadors
Throughout the program, students took on multiple roles that extended beyond classroom learning, demonstrating leadership, creativity, communication, and collaboration in real-world community engagement.
Participating youth explored the value of local “green resources,” particularly nipa palms and coconuts, which play an important role in the community’s way of life. These resources can be transformed into food products, traditional desserts, community products, and even folk toys such as the locally known “Kub-Kub,” which combines entertainment with cultural learning.

“Let’s Go Green @ Bang Bai Mai” reflects the role of 21st-century students as active contributors to society. Beyond classroom learning, they can effectively share knowledge, foster environmental awareness, and work collaboratively with local communities to advance sustainable development goals in meaningful and measurable ways.
