Advancing Community Tourism: IST-SRU Partners with Ban Chiew Lan Municipality to Develop Professional Regional Tour Guides
The International School of Tourism, Suratthani Rajabhat University, continues to strengthen collaboration with local networks by opening opportunities for external stakeholders to participate in shaping tourism workforce development. This initiative aims to enhance community-based tourism and support sustainable local development.

Led by Dr. Jeerati Poon-ied, Dean of the International School of Tourism, together with 5 related personnel.
Participation Activity
On 12 February 2026, at Ban Chiew Lan Subdistrict Municipality, a consultation meeting was held to determine the implementation guidelines for the training and study visit project for the Regional Tour Guide Course specific to the Southern Region for the fiscal year 2026.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Chaowalit Chuaysong, Mayor of Ban Chiew Lan Subdistrict Municipality, and attended by executives, personnel, and relevant external stakeholders. Participants exchanged ideas and recommendations to ensure that the project aligns with the needs of local people and can be practically implemented in the community.
In addition, Dr. Jeerati Poon-ied, Dean of the International School of Tourism, along with related personnel, participated in the meeting to provide academic support and contribute to the development of a curriculum suitable for the local context.
Outcomes of Participation
- Developed guidelines for the training and study visit project for the Regional Tour Guide Course specific to the Southern Region that align with the local context and community needs.
- Received recommendations from external agencies, particularly academic input and curriculum development guidance from the International School of Tourism.
- Established collaborative approaches between agencies to enhance the tourism potential of the community.
Application of Participation Results for Improvement and Development
- Recommendations from the meeting will be used to improve the format and content of the training curriculum to better suit the local context and community needs.
- The draft collaboration guidelines from the meeting will be further developed into a clear and concrete framework for working with external agencies.
- Information obtained from the exchange of ideas will be applied to project planning to ensure efficiency and appropriate alignment with tourism promotion policies.
