The International School of Tourism, Suratthani Rajabhat University, in collaboration with Khlong Sok Subdistrict Administrative Organization and Khao Sok Community Tourism Group, organized the “Junior Guide: Social Engineer Classroom” project to develop local youth in Khlong Sok. The initiative aims to nurture a new generation of guides with a strong love for their hometown, deep appreciation for natural resources, and the ability to share community stories with international visitors. This project directly supports SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Khlong Sok Subdistrict Administrative Organization allocated a budget to conduct the Junior Guide training in two batches on 5–6 and 19–20 July 2025. The International School of Tourism, Suratthani Rajabhat University, along with the Khao Sok Community Tourism Group, served as advisors and co-organizers. The goal was to develop young local leaders who are environmentally conscious, proud of their community, and capable of communicating local stories confidently to international tourists as junior guides.
The project involved strong collaboration among multiple community stakeholders. Youth participants received hands-on learning and developed essential skills, including:
-
Local natural resource knowledge from Khao Sok National Park officers
-
English presentation and guiding skills from Jungle Life Camp instructors
-
Recreational activity design and facilitation for tourists from professional local guides
-
Guiding mindset and local pride from the head of the Khao Sok Community Tourism Group
-
Hospitality and visitor information skills from the International School of Tourism and expert teams
The Khlong Sok Subdistrict Administrative Organization played a crucial role in managing and providing close support throughout the program, ensuring a practical and confidence-building learning atmosphere for the youth.
This project not only imparts knowledge and inspiration but also lays a strong foundation for long-term sustainable development. The International School of Tourism aims for the community to utilize this knowledge, develop local potential, and independently manage community-based tourism in a sustainable way. It strongly aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education, which focuses on lifelong learning and skills development, and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, which promotes building strong, self-reliant communities and managing resources responsibly.
