First-year students from the Aviation Business program at the International School of Tourism, Suratthani Rajabhat University, recently joined an educational field trip to Surat Thani International Airport and the Surat Thani Meteorological Station to explore key components of the aviation industry.
The objective was to introduce students to essential components of airport operations and aviation meteorology, which play a critical role in the aviation industry. During the visit, students gained insights into:
-
Airport space management (landside – airside)
-
Security and safety systems
-
Baggage handling and ground services
-
Air traffic management systems
-
Coordination between various airport units
An important part of the field trip focused on aviation meteorology. Students learned how weather data—such as wind direction and speed, visibility, cloud formations, storms, fog, and atmospheric pressure—affects flight safety, air traffic control decisions, and communication with passengers in the event of delays.
This hands-on experience aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of real-world operations, from ground crew responsibilities to in-flight services, including the technologies and systems that support air travel. The project helps students develop analytical and practical skills, preparing them for future academic success, professional training, and career confidence in the aviation sector.
